Itinerary
View on Tower Bridge
Over 100 years ago, the Victorians built a bridge that has become one of London's most famous landmarks. High-level footbridges were built for people to cross the Thames while the bridge was raised for tall ships to pass.
Today these walkways serve as viewing galleries, offering visitors the most spectacular views across an ever-changing London skyline.
Completed in 1894, Tower Bridge was immediately hailed as a London icon and one of the great engineering marvels of its era. Step inside to explore its history, discover its secrets and enjoy breathtaking views from its high-level walkways, located 42 meters above the Thames.
The walkways offer fantastic views of many of London's most famous sights, including St Paul's Cathedral, Canary Wharf, Maritime Greenwich and the London Eye. Special viewing windows make photography easier. The Victorian engine rooms house the original steam engines, extraordinary machines whose immense power once lifted the bridge's rocker arms. A “virtual bridge lift” shows how the overhead doors still lift today to let ships pass under the footbridges.

This is London: new Tower Bridge exhibition brings classic children's books to life

Tower Bridge is delighted to present 'This is London', a fabulous family-friendly exhibition featuring the internationally acclaimed illustrations and playful prose of Miroslav Sasek's classic children's book. First published in 1959, Sasek's captivating child's view of the sights, buildings and people of London forms an affectionate portrait of the city that has captivated generations of children and adults alike.
In this special exhibition, Tower Bridge, in collaboration with the Sasek Estate and Rizzoli International Publications, brings the world-famous book to life through 29 large-scale displays. Printed reproductions of Sasek's jaunty artwork are complemented with information about London today, allowing these fascinating and evocative images to be your guide to seeing how much (or how little) London has changed since the 1950s. Set against the backdrop of the incredible views of the city from the high-level walkways of Tower Bridge, a number of famous landmarks featured in the book can also be seen from the exhibition space which you can spot. Look out for St. Paul's Cathedral, The Monument and, of course, the the Tower Bridge itself. Get inspired by M.Sasek! There will be coloring sheets provided in the exhibit so you can create your own masterpieces.
