Description

The history of the Tower of London
Built in the 11th century, the Tower of London has been a central part of London life for centuries. With many uses throughout history, the Tower has earned the chilling reputation of being a formidable castle and one that Londoners would tremble at the sight of. Once home to wild animals, 'the royal beasts', the Royal Mint and a prison, there is plenty of British history to discover on your visit to the Tower of London.

Beefeaters
The Tower of London is famously guarded by Yeoman Warders who were once used to keep prisoners safe within the Tower. You will now find them outside the Crown Jewels, keeping an eye on events in the Tower. You'll have the chance to see these iconic Guardians, helping you discover more about this historic landmark on London's North Bank.

Crown Jewels of the Tower of London
Get past the Yeoman Warders and get a special chance to see the majestic Crown Jewels. These stunning diamond-studded masterpieces are an unmissable part of the Tower of London tour and will not leave you disappointed. Owned by some of the most famous monarchs in British royal history, you will be able to see which crown was worn by which queen or king. You will also be able to see Queen Elizabeth II's exquisite Imperial State Crown worn during the opening of Parliament.

Show real animals
Once home to a wide range of wild animals, the Tower of London hosts the interactive Royal Animals Exhibition to give visitors an insight into this fascinating part of history. From lions to baboons (and even a polar bear!), many royal animals called the Tower of London home.

The lineage of kings
Admire historic armours, including those of Henry VIII, Charles I and James II. These are arranged in a parade along with beautifully sculpted horses. Dating back to the 17th century, the Line of Kings is an early museum exhibit. You won't see any less popular queens or monarchs in this exhibit, as they played no role in the royal message the monarchy wanted to give to the Tower's first visitors.
