Parco Natura Viva Description

The whole world in one park. Parco Natura Viva is a large zoo in the province of Verona, just a stone's throw from Lake Garda. It includes a Safari trail, which you can explore by car, and a Wildlife trail, where you can walk alongside animal habitats from around the world.
Here you can also find the Dinosaur Park and the farm and above all the new area, House of Giants!
All in one park, to learn about the past, encounter the present, and understand how to protect the future of our wonderful nature.

Founded in 1969, Parco Natura Viva is a modern zoological garden, an important centre for the protection of threatened and endangered species, which has evolved over time to take on an active role in the conservation of biodiversity.

It is located in Bussolengo , in the province of Verona , a few km from Lake Garda .

42 hectares of moraine hill and oak forest, divided into two sections, visitable with a SINGLE ticket:

  • Safari: You can visit in your own car or take one of the jeeps (paid service, reservation required). Duration: approximately 40 minutes (duration varies depending on the number of visitors on the day).
  • Wildlife: pedestrian trail, divided into five continents. It includes refreshments, play areas, picnic areas, restrooms, Extinction Park (Dinosaur Park), a Farm, and a House of Giants, a greenhouse dedicated to gigantism and dwarfism in the animal kingdom. Recommended visit duration: 3-4 hours.

The institutional functions of a modern zoological garden embrace the conservation of biodiversity in many aspects and can be summarised in three fundamentals:

STORAGE :

  • contribute to the conservation of animal and plant life and its natural environment;
  • define strategies that ensure the survival of endangered species;
  • protect and manage, in a controlled environment, endangered species

RESEARCH :

  • Optimize animal management within the zoo by focusing on topics such as population biology, animal welfare, behavioral ecology, cognitive development, and veterinary medicine.

EDUCATION :

  • Raise awareness of the importance of our planet's biodiversity;
  • Educate new generations to respect the environment;
  • To raise public awareness of the need to protect the natural world.

Natura Viva Zoo is part of an Italian, European, and global network of zoos that work together, coordinating their efforts to conserve and maintain high animal management standards. Ex situ conservation programs allow species to be managed across zoos, building a population with good genetic diversity, whose individuals can also be selected for reintroduction into the wild. Animals are not taken from the wild. Natura Viva Zoo supports various in-wild projects to ensure the future of wild species, including playing a key role in the reintroduction of certain species, such as the European bison, northern bald ibis, bearded vulture, and griffon vulture.
