Highlights
Discover Westminster Abbey with an expert guide and let yourself be led on a journey through one of London's most iconic landmarks. Along the way, you'll visit the historic site of the coronations and burials of British monarchs, admiring its majestic Gothic architecture and the tombs of famous figures such as Charles Dickens , Geoffrey Chaucer , and Rudyard Kipling .
Its origins date back to 1045 , when King Edward the Confessor ordered its construction. Its current appearance, however, dates back to the period between 1245 and 1517 , when the building was transformed from Romanesque to Gothic style following the works commissioned by Henry III.
The tour will start from the meeting point, located at the entrance to Westminster Abbey, at 9.15am.
The guide will lead you to discover the various rooms of this famous complex, traditionally dedicated to the coronations and burials of English kings and, later, of the sovereigns of the United Kingdom .
Since the coronation of William the Conqueror in 1066 , all English monarchs have been crowned here, with the exception of Joan I and Edward V. Inside, you can see numerous tombs belonging to members of the royal family, aristocrats and prominent cultural figures, including scientists and poets, such as Charles Dickens, Geoffrey Chaucer and Rudyard Kipling.
More recently, the Abbey has also been the setting for major events such as the funeral of Princess Diana and the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
